Weekly Twitter Mailbag: The Wide Receiver Conundrum

In this week’s installation of the Banks of the Red Cedar Twitter Mailbag, we discuss Deanthony Arnett’s playing time, Johnny Adam’s possible playing time at wide receiver, and playing time at wide receiver.

Let’s go!

Why isn’t Arnett playing when he was SEC freshman 1st team and our receivers have struggled mightily?!? (@browne_matt33)

That’s a really good question. I think Dantonio wants to give the starting receivers more playing time than usual due to their struggles, but Arnett could be a real asset and should be starting. I would definitely like to see him get more playing time in the future.

There are no changes expected at WR for the Spartans this week. Why not? (@spartynation1)

Although the MSU receiving core is struggling, Dantonio probably still feels like they’re the best players to put out on the field on Saturdays, and since the Spartans are playing Ohio State, he really needs them to perform. Again, I’d really like to see other guys out there to see whether MSU’s receiving core could get at all better.

I’ve heard the coaches are contemplating moving Johnny Adams to WR. Any further developments from this? (@SpartanG12)

Not since Tuesday, when it first came out that Adams might play WR. Let me put my two cents in on this, however: I HATE THIS IDEA SO MUCH. Adams is already a second to third round draft pick at his position, where he’s great at. Yes, the Spartans have not been playing well at WR, but there are so many players at that position that we haven’t seen much of. For example, Aaron Burbridge and Macgarrett Kings blew their redshirts in the CMU game, and we really haven’t seen them at all since. Why doesn’t MSU give them some playing time? Keep Adams at CB. PLEASE DANTONIO.
