Bennie Fowler is out, at least for now, and in comes Aaron Burbridge. Given the constant struggles among the wide receiving corps this season, it’s surprising that at least one move hadn’t been made previous to this one. Of course MSU is playing Indiana this week so there is little risk in making personnel changes and it will keep the situation low pressure for Burbridge as well. Just go out and play football…..oh, and catch!
Bennie Fowler definitely isn’t the only problem at his position, but he has not done anything remarkable yet either. It was hoped that Fowler could step into a leadership role with the team and aid in solidifying the receiving corps, but that hasn’t materialized. Some changes had to be made and this is as good a place to start as any. Dantonio had this to say about Burbridge today: ”He needs an opportunity. He has big play potential.”. Okay, so it’s not profound, but it does sum up what Burbridge brings to the table; big play potential and an opportunity to improve the team. This doesn’t mean it’s a permanent change but you can bet if the kid has a huge day against Indiana it will be difficult to pry him out of the lineup.
So that’s pretty much it. Let’s all hope the kid is as good as advertised, but even if it doesn’t work out it is good to see them try something new. I will leave you with this video clip of Dantonio talking about Burbridge back in February.
Go Green!
