Michigan State To Play In Deutschland?

DEUTSCHLAND! That’s what people are screaming right now in Germany, as they get ready for a Euro 2012 semifinal game against Italy.

But that’s not what this is about.

According to news outlets around the state of Michigan, the Spartans will open their 2012-2013 Basketball Season in a game against UConn at a US Air Base in Kaiserslautern, Germany. UConn’s AD, Phil Chardis, said that both the US Department of Defense and both schools have agreed to go, but the deal isn’t quite finalized yet.

The game is scheduled for November 9th at the Ramstein Air Base, and if it happens, will be televised by ESPN. Read more of the details here.

Most Spartan fans recall the 67-55 whooping MSU took to North Carolina last year on the San Diego aircraft carrier, and are probably hoping that something like that doesn’t happen again.

Another question is brought to mind when thinking about this- is this going to be a new MSU tradition?

Personally, I don’t think it will. Maybe it will become a NCAA Basketball Tradition, having two powerhouse teams play at military spots around the world, but I feel that after a while the NCAA would be tired of having Michigan State in it.

It would be awesome if it did become a yearly tradition, adding to the already rich history of MSU. It would give them more publicity and more chance to show the world their skills.

Either way, it’s going to be exciting watching this game.
