“Angry Dantonio” Becomes More Than A Meme

If you have only caught bits and pieces, or none of this at all, please refer to the clip Jameson uploaded last night, and the corresponding transcript he posted in the comment section. You can find that here . After watching and reading all of this with wide-eyed incredulity and a bit of a smirk, I couldn’t help but think of how many parity accounts of Dantonio exist on Twitter and all of them basically have the adjectives dark or angry contained within their handles. He has never been what you would call affable with the media so that perception was understandable, but he had never been quite as brusque as he was after the debacle that was the game with Eastern Michigan either.

So is any of this a big deal? Honestly, I don’t think so. For me, it was refreshing to see a frank assessment instead of coach speak. His team could probably use more of this as well given the fact that there has been little in the way of improvement in several problem areas with four games being completed. I know many have said that Dantonio shouldn’t be adversarial with the media, and while I agree that is true, I think they can stand it so long as it isn’t a regular occurrence. Coach was ticked off and didn’t care who knew it. We as fans were all just as disgusted at one point or another so it’s fairly easy to relate. It’s difficult in the modern world to have an off day or let anything slip without being thoroughly analyzed and judged over it, so I expect to see plenty of commentary regarding his behavior, both good and bad. People complain when a coach gives politically correct answers to everything and people complain when a coach speaks his mind. Basically, people just like to complain.

With luck, the team will get the message loud and clear now as well. If they didn’t already know Dantonio was seething(which they likely did)they sure as heck do now. I am glad I am not in their shoes this week as I doubt practice will be anything but thoroughly miserable work. Dantonio is a no nonsense, bottom line sort of coach and we have all known this for a very long time. If anything it surprises me that I have not seen something like this from him sooner. It really wasn’t that bad you know, he could have slapped himself before leaving the podium. There have been worse tantrums put on display in sports, haven’t there?
